Police are appealing for witnesses after a 22-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of affray after allegedly brandishing a knife.

The man was arrested following an incident in Essex Avenue in Sudbury on Wednesday.

Officers received a call just before 2pm to reports that there was a man in the street with a knife.

Moments later, a second call reported a man being abusive at the same location.

Police officers found the 22-year-old in Waldingfield Road, where he was detained.

Following his arrest, he was taken into custody at Bury St Edmunds Police Investigation Centre, where he was questioned.

Police are asking anyone who was in the area around this time who may have seen the man to contact Pc Michelle French at Sudbury Police by calling 101, and quoting the crime reference number SU/15/218.
