Sudbury mayor Jack Owen visited Claudine Mathias on Friday to wish her a very special happy birthday - her 100th.
Claudine, a resident at The Red House retirement home in Meadow Lane was joined by her daughters Mary and Rosemary, son-in-law Oscar, and granddaughter Mariana, who travelled all the way from Chicago, for her birthday party.
Claudine was born in Hampshire in 1915. From the age of three until six, she lived with her parents in India.
Once married, Claudine and her late husband moved to Liston in Essex in 1955, before moving to Gestingthorpe in 1967 where she lived until moving to The Red House in 2013.
Claudine spent many years supporting her husband as the Rector of Gestingthorpe and Little Yeldham, even attending coffee mornings at the retirement home.
Red House manager Carol Vaughan said: “What a fantastic achievement it is reaching such a significant milestone in your life. Claudine is a lovely resident full of wonderful tales from her past.”
