The owner of a former hotel and restaurant in Sudbury says he hopes his ambitions to turn the building into flats will start progressing soon.
Alan James, from Sible Hedingham, bought the Tarantella in Melford Road in 2009.
Since then, Mr James, who runs his own business buying and selling discounted stock, has been biding his time in order to apply for permission to transform the Victorian property into a number of flats.
He has already had to market the 120-year-old building, previously known as Sudbury Hall, to prove there was no interest in a developer running it as a hotel.
“At the moment, there has not been much in the way of progress,” said Mr James. “It has been a case of waiting for everything to run its course.”
But Mr James, who bought the building for £280,000, said he was confident his plans would come off.
“The idea is still to get permission to change the building from commercial to residential use and create flats,” he said.
“I am hoping something will happen in the next month to move things along.”
The Tarantella has been empty since it was damaged by a fire in January 2008. The then owners attempted to renovate the building but it was left ruined by a second blaze just 18 months later.
