CHURCH organist Stuart Mathieson is getting on his bike on Saturday and is hoping to hit the right notes to raise money.

The 23-year-old, who lives in Foxearth, is taking part in the Suffolk Historic Bike Ride.

But instead of just stopping off at local churches and getting his sponsor form signed, Stuart will be playing the organs at all the churches he visits – culminating in the annual organ marathon at St Peter’s in Sudbury.

“This is the first time I have done this event and I am very excited about the day,” said Stuart, who regularly plays the organ at Little Cornard and Acton churches as well as All Saints in Sudbury

“It’s great that I can try out the various organs in the Sudbury area while having an enjoyable bike ride and helping a good cause.”

As well as playing church organs, Stuart also plays in the Sudbury Symphony Orchestra, the Colne Philharmonic Orchestra and Long Melford Silver Band, as well as singing with Sudbury Choral Society.

On his bike route on Saturday, he is hoping to call into Great Waldingfield, Newton, Assington, Great Cornard and the numerous Sudbury churches.

Half the money he raises will go to the Suffolk Historic Churches Trust and half will be shared between the churches where he regularly plays.

Anyone wanting to sponsor Stuart can email him at stuart.mathieson@btconnect.com or call 01787 311337 or 07896 896559.
