The official opening of Monks Eleigh millennium green – to celebrate the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee –raised £500.

Around 250 villagers turned out for the event, which saw a plaque unveiled.

During the opening, cadets from Sudbury’s St John’s Ambulance Brigade demonstrated lifesaving techniques and a treasure hunt took place.

Traditional village games, such as the egg and spoon race and bowling for a pig, also featured, as did football and beach ball activities.

All funds will go towards the maintenance of the green.
