Open gardens needs helpers

AN annual event that has raised more than £31,000 for St Nicholas Hospice Care needs new volunteers and participants.

This year’s Sudbury Open Gardens had to be cancelled because there were not enough people to help organise it.

But it is hoped that keen gardeners will come forward to open their gardens to the public or to help run the event in 2013.

The open day, which has been running for more than 10 years, attracts hundreds of visitors to the town and has raised much-needed cash for the hospice.

Liz Spillane, St Nicholas Hospice Care community fundraiser, said: “It is a great opportunity to enjoy hidden treasures in a lovely town, so it would be lovely to make the 2013 event the best yet.”
