An unusual tradition was reprised in Glemsford at the weekend as the “Dragging of the Bough” was performed.
The Morris Men of Little Egypt met at St Mary’s Church on Saturday and carried the bough - a large tree branch - around the village, stopping at various points to dance.
Members of the group carry out the practice in acknowledgement of an ancient custom which celebrated the end of the harvest.
This involved the last load of crops from the fields being loaded onto a wagon with a green oak bough - the Horkey Bough.
Villager Harriet North said the event had been fascinating to all who witnessed it.
