CHILDREN got up close and personal with a host of weird and wonderful rainforest creatures on Thursday.

Great Waldingfield Primary School was visited by Chris Knowles from animal workshop company ZooLab, who gave a very hands-on lesson on creepy crawlies and wriggly wildlife.

Pupils met and learnt about Brian the giant African snail, Jarvis the cockroach, Morris the millipede, a baby royal python, George the white tree frog, Rosie the Chilean rose tarantula and Princess Katie the rat.

Headteacher Angie Jones said: “This term’s theme for Year 2 and 3 pupils is rainforests, and they have been learning about the animals and habitats, but we thought the whole school would like to see the creatures.”

Mr Knowles’ exotic friends were greeted with gasps and questions on what the animals eat.

Pupils were also taught about the diminishing rainforest and endangered species.
