A six-foot tower marking Sudbury’s link with Dodi Smith’s 101 Dalmatians story could be made this year.

Town and county councillor John Sayers is keen to see the former drinking fountain at St Peter’s on Market Hill, which is mentioned in the famous story and marked with a plaque, returned to its former glory and has begun finding private and charity funds.

“A lorry backed into the fountain more than 20 years ago,” said Mr Sayers. “When it came back from repair, the centre piece was missing. I want it back in its original state.”

Sudbury Freemen’s Trust has pledged around a third of the estimated £9,000 cost and Luxstone stone masons in Brundon Lane has designed the piece with help from freeman Ted Filer.
