HADLEIGH Town Council has appointed a new mayor.
Penny Cook was voted in at the annual town council meeting at The Old Guildhall, Hadleigh, last month.
Miss Cook said one of her priorities was to get more youth on the council.
She said: “I am keen to see what we can do to get younger people involved in the council.
“We want to get more young people voting and also people in their 30s and 40s standing as councillors.
“Four years ago, the council had just enough people standing so there was no election. This time, we are one councillor short and so there was no election again. I think that is a sad situation as it means there are no new faces.”
The former teacher was previously mayor of Hadleigh 16 years ago.
“The role has changed a great deal,” she said. “There wasn’t the amount of official engagements to attend that there are now.
“I had been asked before if I would consider standing, but it is only since I retired that I could think about doing it again.”
