BOWLS club members can enjoy their beloved clubhouse without getting wet, thanks to their speedy fundraising efforts.
Great Cornard Bowls Club managed to raise £4,850 in just three months for renovations to the roof of its clubhouse in Stevenson Approach, which had been leaking badly.
Club secretary Jeremy Hill said: “The felt, which has been up since 1982, had completely rotted away. There were two big holes and water was coming in everywhere.
“This money keeps us going – we can use the changing rooms for so much. It is just a brilliant space.”
Great Cornard Parish Council gave £1,000, Babergh District Council awarded £1,350 and Suffolk County councillor Peter Beer gave the club £2,500 from his locality budget.
Mr Beer said: “The club has been going for about 40 years. It is a well used club and a good facility in Great Cornard. They have done well to raise the funds so quickly.”
