Plans are in place to create a group to help support a local credit union.

The idea came from members of St Gregory’s Church Council, who wanted to become more directly involved with Eastern Loans and Savings Credit Union – the provider for Suffolk.

Church council member John Hedge said: “We learned that the most effective way of supporting the union would be to establish a local steering group for it.”

Sudbury Town Council clerk Jacqui Howells said the new group would aim to promote the council’s existing work with the union to help residents access loans more safely and have their own trained advisors.

The town council has been asked to be the official sponsor for the steering group and a decision will be made at a policy and resources committee meeting on November 4.
