The Waggon and Horses pub in Sudbury could soon have a new owner as talks progress with brewer Greene King.

The pub in Acton Square closed in January, with landlord Sam Butler claiming a £25,000 investment and extensive refurbishment could not fight off a downturn in trade.

A spokesman for Greene King said: “We made the difficult decision to close and sell the pub as it has become unviable as a business.

“The pub has not yet been sold but we are in the early stages of discussions with a potential buyer, the details of which are confidential.”

Mr Butler, who had run the pub for two years, had refurbished the bar and cellar during his time in charge,

The pub was originally listed for sale at £250,000 but is no longer available to view on the Greene King website.
