Heavy, possibly thundery, showers or some longer spells of rain are expected to become more widespread through today, particularly this afternoon and early evening.

The county was already hit by heavy downpours yesterday leading to the closure of the A134 between Sudbury and Bury St Edmunds due to flooding and widespread disruption in Diss.

A spokesman for the Met Office said: “Although some places will miss the heavier rain, where it occurs, please be aware of the possibility of local surface water flooding.

“There are already some areas of rain and showers across southern areas, but as temperatures increase this morning, these are likely to become heavy in places, with localised downpours possible. “Furthermore, as on recent days, the showers may well organise themselves into slow-moving bands of heavy rain, which may produce 20 to 30 mm of rain over 2 or 3 hours.”
