MONEY raised from a village fun run could enable a high-flying football team to progress to the next level, according to the event’s organiser.
The Great Boxford Run, which was due to take place on Saturday but has now been postponed, is being staged by Boxford Rovers FC.
The club, which is currently fourth in the Colchester and East Essex Premier Division and has been promoted for the last six seasons in a row, is hoping that funds raised from the event will allow it to improve its facilities and lead to future success.
The club’s assistant manager and race organiser Dan Swansborough said: “We are aiming to raise £2,500 to improve Boxford Pavilion, which is used by a number of clubs in the village.
“If we can get the work sorted, we could go up to the next division because we have been invited, but at the moment our facilities aren’t up to scratch and that is the only thing holding us back.”
Dan, of Holbrook Barn Road, said he was hopeful a good turnout at the fun run when it is reorganised. Runners can choose either a 1km, 5km or 10km run.
Registration fees, which will go towards work on the pavilion, are £2 for 1km – on the day only – £5 for the 5km and £7 for the 10km run.
