The body of a missing Sudbury woman has been found close to her home.
Shirley Cassman, from Melford Road, was found in water at the “Swan Bridge” in Brundon Lane earlier today. Police and an air ambulance were called at around 11.30am, but 68-year-old was pronounced dead at the scene.
Mrs Cassman had last been seen at West Suffolk Hospital at around 9am on Tuesday.
Police carried out an extensive search of the hospital grounds and the surrounding area but were unable to find her.
Officers urged residents to check outbuildings, sheds and garages in case Mrs Cassman was taking shelter from the cold.
Her son Jason Watt, from Wiltshire, travelled down to the area today to give out leaflets and posters near the hospital in an attempt to locate his mother.
A spokeswoman for Suffolk Police said Mrs Cassman’s death was being treated as unexplained but there are not thought to be any suspicious circumstances. The coroner has been informed.
