Acton villagers mounted a community search party for an elderly man who went missing from home on Monday night.

The man in his 80s is believed to have left his home in Waldingfield Road around 4pm.

After a torchlight search in the dark, a group of volunteers from the village found Mr Johnson on the disused Great Waldingfield airfield shortly before 9pm.

Both police and ambulance crews were called to the incident.

An East of England Ambulance Service spokesman said: “We were called to Tentree Road, Great Waldingifled, at 8.55pm.

“We sent an ambulance and the man was assessed at the scene. It looked like he was suffering from the cold but didn’t require transport to hospital.”
