weddingS, gym and fitness venue Kersey Mill near Hadleigh has gone into voluntary liquidation.
The 17-acre private estate beside the River Brett at Kersey, including a four-storey water mill mentioned in the Domesday Book, is an established wedding venue, but this week its website and booking telephone number were unavailable.
It is thought that dozens of weddings and corporate hospitality events, including birthday parties, have had to be cancelled, leaving doubt over whether or not event deposits paid will be recovered.
London-based company Chantrey Vellacott DFK has been instructed to appoint a liquidator.
On Wednesday, a spokeswoman for Suffolk County Council said the county’s registrar service was having difficulty contacting the venue to establish what was happening.
She said: “We are trying to establish contact with the venue to ascertain what it happening with wedding bookings. ”
The Mill came into private ownership in the 1970s after lying derelict.
Current owner Rodney Kerr was not available for comment but is reported to have posted a letter online saying the company was unable to guarantee existing and future bookings.
