A middle-aged couple from Sudbury were caught in a mid-morning romp among the daffodils at a children’s play area in the town.

Luke Manning, 46, and Lucy Sandford, 45, are believed to have consumed alcohol when they began having sex close to the Belle Vue Park zip wire.

An off-duty police officer, who saw a naked man on top of a woman, alerted a maintenance worker who confronted the pair at around 11.15am on April 19.

By the time police arrived at the scene there were said to have been as many as 50 adults and children in the park.

Forty-six-year-old Manning, of Stour Street, and 45-year-old Sandford, of Rosemary Gardens, were identified as the couple involved and were subsequently arrested.

Both Manning and Sandford admitted outraging public decency at West Suffolk Magistrates’ Court in Bury St Edmunds.

They were each fined £100, as well as being ordered to pay £85 towards prosecution costs and £30 to the victims’ fund.
