ST Peter’s in Sudbury is kicking off its season of Diamond Jubilee organ recitals with a free concert this month.

Michael Bayley, a former president of Colchester Organ Society, will play over an hour of 20th century light organ music from 3pm on Sunday, April 22.

“The first piece I’m playing is Royal Windsor by John Fairman, in keeping with the Jubilee theme,” said Mr Bayley, who admitted to minor nerves about playing in the grand venue.

“I am a little apprehensive but I know I will be pleased to have done it,” he added.

The schedule of eight recitals runs through to October, featuring a number of organists from across the area, as well as the 19th annual organ marathon on Saturday, September 8.

Stuart Letten, who has been involved with the Friends of St Peter for 30 years, said: “We try to use local organists if we possibly can.

“Since Michael’s arrival in Sudbury in 1999, he has been a most welcome contributor to the organ marathon and the Christmas Tree Festival team.”

Usual admission to the Diamond Jubilee organ recitals is £5.
