A SOLDIER from Lavenham killed while on duty in Afghanistan will be remembered with a charity football match this weekend.
Lance Corporal Jonathan Woodgate was fatally wounded while out on foot patrol when a grenade was thrown from behind a wall in the Sangin District in March 2010.
On Saturday, a team from Lavenham Royal British Legion will play a team of soldiers from the Household Cavalry Regiment, who L-Cpl Woodgate served with as part of the Blues and Royals regiment.
The match will be held at Lavenham Recreation Ground in Bridge Street Road in his memory, as part of Lavenham Charity Challenge.
The event starts at noon, with the match kicking off at 3pm. Other attractions include stalls, a bar and a barbecue, with programmes on sale.
All proceeds will be split between the Royal British Legion and the Household Cavalry Operational Casualties Fund.
