A DARING 90-year-old grandmother is preparing to take flight for a charity skydive.

Mavis Mckechnie, from Monks Eleigh, will be taking a leap of faith from 10,000 feet to raise funds for Help for Heroes – a charity which supports wounded British servicemen and women – on Sunday.

Mrs Mckechnie, who worked in a Red Cross Convalescent Home during the Second World War, said she thought April Fool’s Day was a fitting occasion for her brave challenge.

“My family has a long history with the armed forces, and it made perfect sense to raise money for Help for Heroes,” she said.

“I am a little nervous about the jump, but know I’m in good hands and am doing it for a good cause.”

Mrs Mckechnie will be joined on her jump by her friend Jane Ward and Domini Pocock, Suffolk county co-ordinator for Help for Heroes.
