A man found with fatal stab wounds in a garden in Bildeston yesterday morning has been named locally as Brian Knock, 38.

A 44-year-old man remains in police custody at Bury st Edmunds Police Investigation Centre after being arrested on suspicion of murder.

He is belived to be known to the victim but not related to him.

Police were called by the ambulance service to attend an address in Brooksfield at 4.15 am on Sunday morning.

Mr Knock was pronounced dead at the scene just before 5am.

A post mortem examination carried out at Ipswich Hospital yesterday afternoon revealed he died from multiple stab wounds.

Steven Pryke, 57, who lives a few houses away from the scene, said: “It is a shock, you normally read about things like this happening in big towns but you don’t dream about it in your own back yard.

“I just can’t come to terms with it.”

Mr Pryke, a fork-lift truck driver in Colchester who has lived in Brooksfield for 34 years, said of Mr Knock: “He was a good bloke, always a laugh and always friendly. Nobody ever had a bad word to say about him.”

Police are reassuring residents that this appears to be an isolated incident and thank all those who have been in contact.

Two areas of the village remain cordoned off while forensic examinations take place but the road has been reopened.

Anyone with information about the incident is asked to call the Suffolk and Norfolk Major Investigation Team on 101.
