A Hadleigh man has been charged with manslaughter following the death of a woman from carbon monoxide poisoning.

Peter Sykes, 67, of Castle Road, is also charged with five counts of contravening health and safety regulations on Monday.

The charges are in connection with the death of Annette Coe from Ipswich. Mrs Coe was found collapsed at her home on December 5 last year.

Paramedics called fire crews after attending an emergency call and finding the house filled with smoke. The 71-year-old was taken to Ipswich Hospital but died the next day.

Following her death, the police and the Health and Safety Executive launched a joint investigation, which centred on the oil heater in Mrs Coe’s home.

A post-mortem examination revealed that she died of carbon monoxide poisoning.

In a statement released after Mrs Coe’s death, her family described her as a selfless woman who played an active role in the community. They said they were devastated by her loss.

Sykes is due to appear at Ipswich Magistrates’ Court on October 16.
