A 20-YEAR-OLD man was killed after being hit by a train in Little Cornard.
The man, who is thought to be from the Babergh area but has not yet been named, was struck by a train close to a level crossing off Bures Road on Tuesday afternoon.
Emergency services attended the incident, which was reported at 2.40pm, but were unable to save the man’s life.
A spokeswoman for the British Transport Police, said: “The man, thought to be 20 years old and from Babergh, was pronounced dead at the scene.
“The incident is being treated as non-suspicious and a file will be prepared for the coroner.”
She added that officers were working to identify the man, who is thought to have been a student, and inform his family. An inquest into the death is expected to be opened and adjourned in the next few days.
The train involved was the 2.26pm service travelling from Sudbury to Marks Tey.
Replacement bus services were put in place while incident response teams cleared the scene and the line was handed back to Network Rail at 3.55pm. Trains resumed running at 5.10pm.
