PROPOSALS to allow drivers in Sudbury and Hadleigh to buy tickets to park in the towns’ long-stay car parks for up to three days have been given the go-ahead.
The decision was made during a meeting to review the towns’ car parking charges on Tuesday and comes after a number of drivers complained about Babergh District Council’s current policy, which only allows parking for a maximum of 24 hours.
This meant commuters returning from overnight business trips faced the possibility of a penalty fine of up to £45.
Drivers will now be able to buy up to 72 hours of parking.
A plan to make parking permits transferable for Sudbury and Hadleigh’s long-stay car parks was also approved during the meeting.
The amendments to Babergh’s parking policy will now be advertised and put up for public consultation for six weeks before being implemented.
