Design contest
TO mark the 90th anniversary of the Sudbury Festival of Performing Arts, we ran a schools competition for a new design for the programme cover.
Sound advice but search goes on
ON reading an article in the Free Press on February 9 concerning someone who had been the victim of unscrupulous thieves who had stolen the catalytic converter from their van, I noted that in response, the advice from the police was for motorists to park their vehicles in “well-lit areas”.
Business rates more than unfair
I WAS pleased to read that others, apart from me, have now realised that the out of town stores pay less rates, pro rata, than those in town (Free Press, February 9).
Couple should be commended
IN response to recent reports and speculation about the future of Lavenham Post Office, it is apparent that gossip and rumour take priority over fact and truth.
New centre would be great addition
MAY I be permitted to clarify for your readers the article in last week’s Free Press headed Talks start over museum.
State of toilets was quite a shock
WHILE shopping in Sudbury I desperately needed to spend a penny (but as it’s Sudbury - 20p) and on going up to the Gaol Lane toilets I found a lady with a young child hoping to get change for a £1 coin but couldn’t do so as there was no one to give change behind the glass.
Molly is not the first cat to be killed
LAST week my beautiful 12-year-old cat Molly was knocked over and killed in Beech Road, Great Cornard.
Why no warning of blackout?
I CANNOT believe that the street lights have been turned off outside my house without a word of warning. I noticed that it was pitch black early on January 24 and thought, at first, that there had been a power cut. It transpired, however, that the council had decided, in its wisdom, to turn the street lights off after midnight.
This could make things worse
IN the Free Press of February 2, Suffolk county councillor Graham Newman (children, schools and young people) says, on improving the performance of Sudbury and Cornard upper schools: “... we are right to pursue the Schools Organisation Review and change from a three-tier system to a countywide two-tier system.”
Council shows its true colours
JUDITH Fardell, headteacher of Wells Hall Primary School, has highlighted Suffolk County Council’s true colours in its attitude to our local schools (Free Press, January 26).
A big thanks to all my sponsors
CAN I take this opportunity of thanking everyone, especially the many Delphi workers, who sponsored me in my charity swim raising funds for Aspire, the charity supporting people with spinal cord injuries.
Wind power is a great opportunity
SOME people have been making the point that wind turbines should not be subsidised on their energy produced as we all have to bear the cost of this.
Have we learnt nothing at all
FURTHER to Robin Drury’s letter regarding the land adjacent to the rear of our town hall (Free Press, January 26).
Thanks to all who supported dance
WE would like to take this opportunity to say a very big thank you to everyone who supported the “Indoor car park dance” for Help for Heroes on Saturday, December 17.
We try to do our best for this town
REGARDING David Riddlestone’s letter (You proved me wrong, Babergh, January 16), I would like to say thank you, David, for your comments and words of praise.
I can’t see Spar selling chips ...
I WRITE in response to Mr Nash’s letter (Competition is healthy in village, January 19) as I was surprised to read his interpretation of events.
Short-term gain is madness
I WOULD like to completely agree with the letter from Rev Anthony Moore (Free Press, January 12) regarding the poor decision making being made about our town - and it isn’t all just about the difficult state of the country’s economy.
1 commentFine smacks of inequality
HAVING recently read the Free Press article on the non issuing of parking fines to travellers in the Station Road car park, I feel moved to express my disgust at the dual standards promoted by our local council.
Not knowing is heartbreaking
FURTHER to the letter in the Free Press of January 5 regarding the terrible mauling of a cat in Mountbatten Road, our family cat, Tiggy, has gone missing.
