THE quest for gardening perfection saw a selection of green-fingered children and residents collect awards in the Pride of Sudbury competition.

Running for the 16th year, the annual event pits plant-packed flower beds against handsome homegrown offerings as entrants battle it out to find out who has done the most to beautify the town.

Categories in the contest, which is put on by Sudbury Town Council, include best natural garden, allotment and community garden.

With floral fall outs kept to a minimum, those taking part gathered at the town hall on Thursday in eager anticipation of the results.

Taking top spot in the best school section was Tudor Primary School in Tudor Road, which impressed with its array of vegetable patches and flower displays.

“We have a big focus on gardening at the school,” said reception teacher Helen Appleton.

“We do lots of environmentally-friendly activities, composting and have a thriving gardening club.”
