A county group supporting healthier living has launched a new campaign after a successful trial run in Sudbury saw rapid weight loss in more than half of trialists.

Live Well Suffolk has announced a campaign to encourage Suffolk residents to lose five per cent of their body weight after a survey found that one in three people in Suffolk are overweight.

The campaign will run after a trial at the Kingfisher Leisure Centre in Sudbury saw more than 50 per cent of people reaching their target weight loss in just 12 weeks.

Live Well Suffolk is a free healthy lifestyles and weight management service, commissioned by Suffolk County Council in partnership with the NHS.

Their new campaign, launched last week in Sudbury, will hope to provide residents with practical support and advice to help them towards a healthier future.

The ‘Suffolk Weigh-In’ is the latest healthy lifestyles campaign from Live Well Suffolk and is encouraging people to see for themselves the benefits of losing five percent of their body weight.

It can reduce the risk of serious health conditions such as heart disease, strokes and type two diabetes.

The new programme is completely free to join and runs from the Kingfisher Leisure Centre on Station Road in Sudbury.

Across the county, people who have benefitted from the new service have reported no longer needing knee operations or gastric band surgery.

Chantelle Welham, the lead for Live Well Suffolk’s adult weight management service, said: “Losing five percent of your body weight has a huge impact on your health and is a great confidence booster as you will feel better about yourself.

“Each programme lasts 12 weeks and we cover a different topic every week, helping people understand the key elements required to lose weight in a healthy and sustainable way.

“We take our clients on a tour of the local supermarket and help them to understand and compare food labels, talk to them about healthy essentials and help them to eat healthily on a budget.”

Live Well Suffolk also provides services for giving up smoking and weight management classes for children.
