Weekend Thought by Faith Marsden
Last week we were driving along the Long Melford bypass and in the sky was a deep orange glow. Across the fields there burned a large bonfire, a fairground ride was lit, laser lights sent their beams into the air and standing behind it all like a sentinel stood the church, also lit. Behind us shone a clear moon.
Along with many others we pulled in to watch as great bursts of colour and sparks filled the sky. It wouldn't have been quite the same at lunchtime but in the dark, light does its job most effectively.
As the fire died down, the last shower of sparks dropped to the earth and the car headlights melted away into the darkness, I was reminded of the time when Jesus burst into our world. He claimed to be the light of the world and from that day to this he is still bringing light and hope into people's lives.
The Big Night Out made a dark night bright and exciting. When the Light of the World steps back into time as He has promised to do, viewing won't be limited and the light will never go out.
