Weekend Thought by Faith Marsden
I AM no politician – much of what is said and done seems to be like a foreign language to me. For all of that though, I am sure that I am not the only one who has been amazed at the process which allows someone to preside over disastrous financial decisions and then rewards them very generously for doing so.
When I was young (which is not so long ago) I was taught that wrong behaviour and wrong decisions always bore consequences and they were often not very pleasant. From those consequences and the recognition that how we behave affects others, we learn a moral code. At what point did that all change?
We are currently in the season of Lent in the church calendar. It is a time when we are reminded to evaluate the way our lives are going and put things right that have gone wrong.
Whether or not we give up something for Lent, it is no bad exercise to take some time to mull over the direction of our lives.
The amazing message of Easter is that wrong actions can be forgiven – if we are prepared to say sorry and change direction.
