The work of a Great Cornard volunteer, who died at the age of 23, is to live on at a charity which supports vulnerable adults.

The Befriending Scheme at The Croft, Sudbury, is to name a training room after Sophie Bavington.

Miss Bavington, from Bures Road, regularly helped out at the charity before her death in June, 2012. She had also spent four years working at Hazell Court care home in Acton Lane.

The room at the charity’s new base above Northcroft Social Club is to be officially opened tomorrow. The charity, which celebrates 25 years next month, moved from Gainsborough Street in February. A plaque will also be unveiled in memory of Miss Bavington.

Her father, Tony Bavington, a member of Great Cornard Parish Council, is expected to give a speech during the event.

On the same day a ceremony will also be held for the charity’s Young Volunteer of the Year award.
