Tony West is organising a charity match at Long Melford FC to raise money for Macmillan Cancer Support and Success After Stroke.

A Great Cornard man has organised a football match to support charities that have helped his seriously ill parents.

A Macmillan All Stars side, pulled together by Tony West, 22, from Chelsworth Avenue, will play a Long Melford FC XI at Stoneylands ground at 2pm on Sunday, November 11.

Proceeds will go to Macmillan Cancer Support and Success After Stroke. Mr West’s dad Mick was diagnosed with terminal cancer in September, while his mum suffered a stroke four years ago.

“It has been hard for everyone, but I am someone who will face this head-on.” said Mr West, who has arranged raffle prizes including a ball signed by Manchester United’s first team.

“Macmillan has helped to explain to our whole family what is going on and how they can help with everything,” added Mr West, who has a brother Martin, 31, and a sister Clare, 29.

He will be visiting his former school, The Thomas Gainsborough School in Great Cornard, next week to raise awareness of strokes among younger people.

Tickets for the match cost £5 for adults, £2.50 for children up to 16 years old or £10 for a family of four and are available on the gate or from Tony on 07826640860.
