This week by Paul Bloomfield
I'm not looking forward to tomorrow. Not because I've got a dentist's appointment or the cleaning to do, but because I will be leaving my twenties behind and hitting the big three-zero.
Becoming 30 is a bit scary.
For me, celebrating your 18th and 21st birthdays are something to really enjoy and relish.
But 30 seems like a demand that you finally have to grow up and become a "proper" adult.
Being the youngest in my year at school, I'm the last of my old classroom buddies to finally be touched by old father time.
Those of you who are members of Facebook, will know that the website informs you of the up-and-coming birthdays of friends who have also joined the social networking site.
During the last year I have seen old pals and acquaintances from my school days all gradually reaching that milestone, while I pushed it to the back of my mind and told myself I still had six, five, four or three months to go until it was my turn.
I have obviously been to a few 30th birthday parties in the past eight months and the thought of turning 30 doesn't seemed to have bothered other friends (or so they say!).
They have said they don't feel any different since leaving their twenties behind, while others say life is suppose to begin at 30.
I imagine when I wake tomorrow morning, I will feel just the same as I did today.
Maybe I'll have a few more grey hairs, or have gained a couple of extra pounds.
However, I will be having my own celebration on Sunday, so maybe I should just think of it as becoming another year older and enjoy it.
I think I will keep the mindset of a message that I saw on a birthday card the other day which said "You're not 30, you're 18 with 12 years' experience" ... that sounds good to me!
