More than 80 volunteers have offered to lend a hand at the Sudbury Big Dig.

The event is being overseen by Dr Carenza Lewis from Cambridge University’s Access to Archeology course and channel 4’s Time Team.

Thirty households from the town are to open up their gardens as test pit sites and a number of schools in the area will be taking part.

The dig, at the beginning of October, will include areas of North Street, The Croft, Gainsborough Street, Friars Street and into Ballingdon.

It is hoped that many householders will be able to provide equipment, such as spades, trowels and hand-brushes.

To volunteer to help at the event, email sudburybigdig@gmail.com.
