Two children in Long Melford missed out on the joy of opening new bikes for Christmas after the presents were stolen just days before the big day.

Thieves broke into a shed at the back of a house in Bull Lane and took the girls bikes, which had been intended for Christmas presents.

The theft took place between 4pm on December 22 and 8am the following morning, leaving the family with little time to find replacement gifts and putting a dampener on the festive season.

A spokeswoman for Suffolk Police said officers were asking for anyone who may have seen the break-in to come forward in a bid to catch the Christmas thieves.

“Police are appealing for witnesses after the theft of two children’s bikes from Long Melford, intended as Christmas presents,” she said.

“Two un-assembled boxed girls bikes were stolen from a shed at the rear of a property. The bikes are described as white and blue Vertigo mountain bikes.”

Call Pc Darren Marshall at Sudbury Police on 101.
