Thatched house roof collapses during fire

Firefighters battled a fire at a thatched house for more than eight hours but were unable to save its roof from collapsing.

A total of 20 crews attended the blaze at a house in Nedging Tye, near Bildeston, on Friday evening.

Engines from Sudbury, Hadleigh and Halstead were among the first to be called after the fire, which started on the first floor, was reported shortly before 8pm.

Further appliances were called for an hour later as part of the house’s roof collapsed and firefighters attempted to salvage the ground floor.

Relief crews were called in as tackling the fire went into the early hours and the blaze was eventually brought under control by 4am.

Nobody was injured as a result of the fire.
