That Ugly Sister looks just like my dad ...

THEY had to keep it a secret from their children for three months while rehearsals and costume fittings took place.

Although suspcious, youngsters at St Josephs Primary School in Sudbury didn’t rumble what their parents were up to until all was revealed on Monday.

The cheeky mums and dads had in fact been preparing a surprise pantomime for the youngsters as a special Christmas treat.

Pupils and staff were left rolling around with laughter as parents put on a performance of Cinderella with a rhyming script – complete with dads dressed as the Ugly Sisters.

The panto was the brainchild of parent Sharon Thomas, while the script was written by another parent, Deanna Hayward.

“It was so fantastic, I really didn’t think it would come off as well as it did,” said Mrs Thomas.

“The children were so chuffed and it’s really made our Christmas. The kids and staff were rolling around laughing. It really couldn’t have gone any better.”

The children had been told they were going to an assembly with headteacher Janet Beswick.

But Mrs Beswick was “called away” shortly before the stage curtain was raised . . . to reveal mums and dads in full panto mode.

“The kids’ faces were a picture,” said Mrs Thomas. “They were laughing, and booing and hissing. Everyone has been texting and calling us to thank us so much.

“Obviously we really want to thank everybody for their support across the school. Nothing has been too much trouble.” The actors are now planning to put on more performances of the show at the Prospect Theatre in Great Cornard and The Quay in Sudbury, to raise money for local charities and the school.

“We’d love to hear from any local charities or anyone looking to raise money for good causes that we could put the panto on for,” said Mrs Thomas.

Anyone interested in getting in touch with the panto parents should call 07883 774814.
