Ten-year-old to play ten hours of golf for Sport Relief
A KEEN young golfer is taking on a huge challenge in aid of Sport Relief by playing a 10-hour "golfathon" at Newton Green club on March 21.
Ten-year-old Ben Uttridge has been a club member since he was five and has a handicap of 25. He thought up the idea himself and will attempt 72 holes in all.
Proud mum Jackie Berry, from Assington, said Ben had wanted to raise money for charity but missed out on Children in Need.
"He decided to do something for Sport Relief instead and came up with this challenge to play 10 hours of golf by himself.
"Although he's got a motorised buggy to carry his clubs, he'll be walking all the way, which amounts to four times around the course or approximately 13 miles.
"He'll start at 7am regardless of the weather and will finish at 5pm."
A pupil at Littlegarth School, Nayland, Ben hopes to raise 2,000 for Sport Relief to help transform the lives of poor and vulnerable people, both in the UK and across the world's poorest countries.
