Take a break at crossing

PLANS to put in place a “pedestrian rest” in the middle of a busy road have been welcomed.

A safe area where people can stop in Waldingfield Road will be built during October half-term after concerns were raised by those who negotiate the road to reach the nearby bus stop.

“For the elderly who are going to catch the bus, it is a struggle to get across the road, as it is very busy and wide,” said Colin Spence, Suffolk county councillor for Great Waldingfield and Chilton.

Money for the work will be provided from Mr Spence’s locality budget.

“This pedestrian rest is the first step in improving safety for people crossing the road,” he added.

Members of Sudbury Town Council, meeting on Tuesday at the town hall, agreed that the work was necessary and would make a difference.

Deputy mayor Adrian Osborne said he was glad the work, which should be completed in the school break, would be carried out after receiving dozens of complaints from residents.

“This will be a big improvement,” said Mr Osborne.
