Sudbury's newest super-server can be revealed .... Andrew Poll of Kandy Kiosk beat off stiff competition to win the title of Sudbury's finest shop assistant, as voted for by readers.
The 54-year-old, who has co-owned the kiosk in Borehamgate Precinct since January, said he was gobsmacked at the result.
Fellow owner Fred Charman was also nominated in the Free Press At Your Service competition, coming a close third, with John Watson of C A Watson and Sons greengrocers in second place.
Andrew said: "We were just pleased to get nominated. Everyone who was nominated deserved to win.
"I'm speechless, for the first time in my life."
The pair were nominated by Sally Warne of Mallard Way, Great Cornard, who said: "They are always cheerful and we have a long-standing joke.
"They are polite, are always the same with good service and acknowledge you even when you're not stopping to buy!"
Andrew, who spent more than 20 years as a milkman, says that meeting people is his favourite part of the job.
He said: "I have always worked with the public. You get to know customers and can have a laugh and a joke with them.
"They don't have to buy anything every time, it's just nice to speak to people."
Andrew wins a handsome engraved shield and 100, courtesy of sponsors Bates, Wells and Braithwaite solicitors.
The father-of-two from Stansfield, who also has one grandchild, will donate half the money to a Macmillan coffee morning being held at Marimba coffee shop this Friday, and half to another charity.
