Sudbury - scooter boys back in town

Sudbury came to a near standstill on Saturday as close to 200 scooters invaded the town.

Enthusiasts from as far away as the Isle of Wight were among the swarm of riders who made their way from Colchester to Sudbury for the town's annual scooter extravaganza.

They reached the town centre at 2pm and formed a procession around the one-way system before heading back to Sudbury Rugby Club, in Great Cornard, for a customised scooter show and live music.

"It was a fantastic turnout, a lot bigger than last year," said organiser and Sudbury Scooter Club member Warren Brown. "We had people from the Isle of Wight, Great Yarmouth, Peterborough, Cambridge and across the whole of the region.

"It was an amazing experience when we reached Sudbury. Everyone was looking at us thinking 'what on earth is going on?' "

The afternoon of music included a performance by local teenagers FATE (Friends Amongst the Enemy) and ska music from duo Seventh Step.

"It was a fantastic day," said Mr Brown. "The music and entertainment were great."

Next year Sudbury Scooter Club hopes to attract even more people to the event by turning it into a weekend music festival.
