Sudbury councillor apologises after resignation

Sudbury’s youngest town councillor has apologised to residents after stepping down this week.

Joanne Connah, 23, had represented Sudbury’s north ward on the council since June 2012 but had not attended the majority of meetings and subsequently resigned due to poor health.

Miss Connah, from Reynolds Way, said: “When I first started, I was studying at university in Bedfordshire so that was an issue.

“I graduated in June 2012, but have suffered from poor health since. I understand that I didn’t do as good a job as I had wanted to and that is why I decided to stand down – so residents can get someone who can do the job justice.”

Sudbury Town Council is seeking nominations to replace Miss Connah, with an election due to take place in May alongside Suffolk County Council elections.
