Sudbury Canoe Club clear up Stour

Youngsters from Sudbury Canoe Club undertook a mission to clean up the River Stour.

Six junior canoeists were joined by senior members as they collected sackfuls of rubbish between Cornard Lock and The Croft, in Sudbury, on Saturday.

Junior leader Jeremy Morgan said: "It was a really successful day. We paddled for around two-and-a-half hours and filled up nearly a dozen rubbish bags.

"The amount of rubbish did not really surprise us because we see it when we paddle the river every week. There was a fair amount. One of the worst spots was on Friars Meadow.

"It is a good idea to kick off the year with a paddle like this which teaches the youngsters about the environment.

"It used to be an annual event but we have not done it for many years."
