Store’s drink licence is approved

A HADLEIGH supermarket has been granted permission to sell alcohol until midnight.

Morrisons, which is due to open its premises at Buy Right in Calais Street early next year, was granted the licence, allowing the sale of alcohol between 6am and midnight, by Babergh District Council on Wednesday.

A licensing sub-committee hearing scheduled for Monday was cancelled after the council’s environmental health officer, James Buckingham, withdrew his objections after receiving a report from Morrisons.

Mr Buckingham had expressed concerns over increased traffic to and from the site, as well as noise from customers and delivery vehicles, and had recommended limiting alcohol sales to between 7am and 11pm Monday to Saturday, and 9am to 10.30pm on Sundays.

A Morrisons spokeswoman said opening times for the store were currently unavailable.
