Stoke-by-Nayland hotel gets silver status

A Stoke-by-Nayland family-run hotel, golf and spa business has been upgraded to 4-star status following hot on the heels of a half-a-million pound make-over.

The award-winning Stoke-by-Nayland Hotel, Golf and Spa has just completed a substantial refurbishment of its reception and lobby area, as well as the hotel’s lounge and many of its bedrooms.

The family-owned business, which developed from an apple farm on the site, has been upgraded by Visit England to a 4-star Silver Status.

It is already an AA 4-star hotel.

From being run as a small farm in 1938, it is now a diverse group of companies which includes a hotel, golf, leisure and conferencing resort as well as a fruit growing, packing and storage business and is run by family directors Carmella Meyer, Robert Rendall, Tamara Unwin, Jonathan Loshak and Susanna Rendall.

Director Tamara Unwin said the refurbishment had taken the hotel into a new era of luxury.

“The refurbishment includes 15 bedrooms, the reception, lounge area and the stairway from our lounge into our gallery area. The refurbishment cost half a million pounds,” she said.

“We have also increased the speed of our broadband, and now have free high speed WiFi of up to 100mbps.

“The resort has undergone quite a transformation since it was a modest golf club in 1973 – but the family ethos of quality, service, value and excellence is still strong,” she added.

The current revamp is part of an ongoing redevelopment of the hotel. The last venture was completed two years ago in the hotel grounds with the creation of five luxury country lodges.

The new designs for the hotel lounge and reception have been inspired by the fruit farm which surrounds the two championship golf courses, creating a link between the two elements of the family’s business.

The designs were created by interior designer Lindsey Rendall from Rendall & Wright who also designed the interior of the hotel’s luxury lodges.

Electronic revolving doors have been installed at the hotel entrance.

Ms Unwin added: “The lobby now has a new, contemporary boutique style look and feel, creating a real oasis of calm, and this area sees casual business visitors as well as social gatherings enjoying its relaxed ambience.

“Lindsey has carried the fruit tree theme through to the hotel lounge. For the reception area, Lindsey designed four installations of silk walling which creates a real wow factor for arriving visitors.

“Bespoke high-backed wing sofas create a partition and provide privacy between the seating and walkways.”
