A MAN alleged to have shot a bin man in the face with an air rifle has appeared in court.

Henry Gaskin appeared at Chelmsford Magistrates’ Court charged with possession of an imitation firearm with intent to cause fear of violence, assault causing actual bodily harm, dangerous driving and possession of cannabis.

The 29-year-old was arrested on July 25 after reports of an attack on a bin man in White Horse Avenue, Halstead, at around 8am, sparking a search by armed police.

The victim of the attack, a bin man working for Braintree District Council, suffered minor injuries to his face.

During the hearing Gaskin, of Long Green, Cressing, gave no indiction of plea.

He was remanded in custody and will appear at Chelmsford Magistrates’ Court on October 1.
