SCHOOL SAFETY: Primary school pupils in Acton take part in a walking bus.

Children from Acton Primary School took steps to improve their safety on Tuesday during the pilot of a walking bus.

The youngsters were accompanied by school staff and Pcso Carly Bignell as they walked from the school gates to the village hall car park wearing high-visibility jackets.

Headteacher Julie O’Neill said: “It is about encouraging all our children to take up healthy ways of coming to school, as well as reducing the congestion we have with cars and giving more independence to older pupils.”

The scheme is expected to launch after half-term.
