Risk of flash floods
THE Environment Agency and the MET Office have issued a warning about flash flooding in Suffolk caused by heavy rainfall expected overnight until midday tomorrow.
It is estimated between 60-70mm of rain could fall in some areas - including the Babergh district.
Surface water is expected, which could cause disruption during the Friday morning rush hour and on minor roads. Disruption to travel and longer journey times are also likely.
People are being advised to check weather and media reports regularly and in an emergency, call 999.
Babergh District Council are working to prepare for the downpour by carrying out door-knocking to properties that were affected by flooding in May.
The authority’s grounds maintenance team are also checking all water courses and drains to remove any rubbish that could block them in anticipation of the heavy rain.
Suffolk County Council’s school closure website will be being updated tomorrow morning: http://schoolclosures.suffolk.gov.uk/
