Revamped play area ready for holidays
ENERGETIC youngsters will have plenty of fun this summer after a refurbished play area was unveiled on Monday.
After securing a 50,000 grant from Suffolk County Council as part of its Play Builder initiative, the site in Poplar Road, Great Cornard, was given an extensive facelift.
Seven new pieces of equipment have been installed on the site, including climbing apparatus, to give children the opportunity to engage in more active play.
Kate Hazlewood, Babergh District Council's playworker, worked to secure the funding and is delighted with the new play area.
She said: "We invited 900 residents to give their views on what they wanted to see in their area and children were shown pictures of equipment.
"I am really pleased with how it looks and it encourages children to form their own kind of play and to be more creative."
Mark Newman, chairman of Great Cornard Parish Council’s recreation and leisure committee was impressed by the state of the art equipment.
He said: "This new play area is fantastic for the youngsters in Great Cornard and they deserve it."
Work was also started recently on another play project near Hawkins Road, Sudbury, which has been made possible because of a 75,000 Big Lottery donation.
The overhaul is expected to take about six weeks to complete and will include equipment that was requested during a consultation process held 18 months ago.
